Our Book Bench

Kids and Adults, Reading Together

Each week we gather for an intergenerational book club β€” sharing favorite moments, surprising twists, and big questions.

In a world that often feels noisy, divided, and full of screens, Our Book Bench is a place to slow down, share stories, and rediscover wonder.

πŸ“š About Us

Our Book Bench is a shared reading movement that invites kids and the grown-ups who care about them to read together. At the heart of the project is a youth + adult book club podcast, created by a mother and son, designed to spark imagination, connection, and joy β€” and to make reading together feel simple, meaningful, and accessible.

Each episode invites kids and the grown-ups who care about them β€” parents, grandparents, godparents, mentors, neighbors, and friends β€” to read together, wonder together, and grow together.

In a time when it’s easy to feel scattered, disconnected, or caught in the news cycle, reading together is an act of hope β€” a small, joyful way to create connection and beauty in our everyday lives.

Each week, we share favorite moments, surprising twists, and big questions β€” inviting you to read along with us and carry the conversation beyond the book.

Grab your favorite blanket, your young person (or your grown-up), and join us on the bench β€” where stories remind us that the world is still full of goodness and imagination.

✨ Current Season

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell

Starting in February, we’re reading Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell β€” a rich, imaginative story that invites kids and adults into meaningful conversation. Season 2 of Our Book Bench pairs weekly podcast episodes with an optional reading adventure, offering listeners a gentle rhythm for reading together at their own pace.

Whether you’re joining locally through the library or reading from afar, there’s a place for you at the bench.

⭐ Past Seasons

We started our shared reading journey with The Poisoned King, the second book in Katherine Rundell’s series. Season 1 invited kids and adults to read together through weekly conversations that explored courage, imagination, and the joy of getting lost in a good story.

Between Seasons 1 and 2, we also shared a short Christmas mini-season as a special holiday read-along, offering a playful, thoughtful way to read together during the end of year holidays.
